Working with wax

i created a very curvy pedestal. The the black mask is made of wax which burns out of the plaster mold when the bronze is poured in.
melting two wax skulls together. Initial plan was to create a shoulder piece with this for a bronze armor set I was making. It still may take a different direction.

layering paint for this effect. Still has about 10 more to go, so I will post soon what the final product looks like.

trying to balance abstracted forms of human fleshy figures

Monday, December 8, 2008

As the semester continued, I started to see the overall image come into view, as I developed the beastly figure's insides. (woman, tv's). It was hard to visualize what it was going to look like until I blocked it in. The overall style had come from a smaller drawing which consisted of a crowd full of skeletons at a concert. To my dismay, this piece dissappeared. A follow up piece was the Tree with the guitar player and hanging gas mask.

I used the same morphing effect as I created the beast. As time progressed I went back to the mushroom to set the scene and the distance of the piece.

What was in the mshroom's hand was pivitol. I felt as though it could make or break the scene.

After much deliberation, I made up my mind, a settled with a buttercup flower. I have my reasons.

Indepenent study

Here is my independent study that I have been working on off and on for a semester. My initial idea was that I wanted to draw on something other than paper and canvas. I also wanted to use the walls and surfaces around us. The fact that I worked on drywall in an apartment means that this is a very temporary piece. It will be painted over eventually which makes it special for those who get to see it in person. Its much more captivating when one is able to walk up and focus on smaller details. Taking this into account, I had my photo friend, Kyle Weitkamp assist me with capturing its essence.
